Dry Fork Fruit Distillery

Vince Puccio of Dry Fork Fruit Distillery

I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again: the folks at Dry Fork Fruit Distillery are undoubtedly some of the nicest people you will ever meet in Virginia! Partners Vince Puccio and Tom Willis make moonshine that is completely legal, with a touch of renegade thrown in.

After a few initial legal hurdles (to be expected in the spirits industry) and some debate as to where they would first set up shop – Vince and Tom decided on an old ice plant in Meadows of Dan, which as Vince says, “has the most wonderfully clear water.” Why is this of significance, you ask? Water purity is one of the utmost critical components in quality spirits production.

Dry Fork Fruit Distillery products

They use an old recipe of Tom’s, distilling premium small batch white whiskeys from corn, rye and malted barley, all grown in Patrick County. They don’t use direct heat or flame in their distillation process, so they’re are able to develop a smooth, light product.

Their fruited whiskeys have real berries and damson in the jars to impart natural flavors, which are also from Patrick County. The fruited whiskeys are obviously sweeter than the plain ones, and are great for sipping over crushed ice or mixed with sodas. Their unflavored white whiskey is versatile, especially for mixed drinks. They’ve provided a few suggested recipes below.
