At Ironclad, mighty ships inspired their name. That’s why they stick to their guns. The family-owned distillery makes authentic bourbon whiskey. That’s it. Nothing else. It’s their Ironclad rule. Ironclad sources select Virginia grains for the four-grain recipe. Ferments and distills one batch at a time. And then lets the brackish air from the James River and their charred oak barrels do the rest. Battle stations, everyone!

Operating in an historic warehouse within view of the old Battle of the Ironclads site, enjoy a little history with your whiskey when you visit Ironclad’s beautiful tasting room and distillery. They offer tastings of all their spirits as well as a seasonal list of tipples acknowledging the rich history of the bourbon cocktail and the South’s “house beverage.” Free tours are also available upon request for those eager to learn about the history and process of distillation.
