Caiseal Beer & Spirits Co.

Caiseal Spirits are a product of the Vanguard Brewpub & Distillery, located within the nationally registered historic armory in Hampton, VA. Founded in 2017, Caiseal (pronounced cash-el) small-batch spirits are distilled on site using a 1000L copper pot still. Caiseal is Gaelic for “ring fortress” which is represented in our brand but also harks back to the historic Hampton Armory in which we are housed. Built in 1936, when the building was not being used for military training or housing arms, this National Guard Armory was meant to serve as a communal center for Hampton. It was seen as a public auditorium, gymnasium and even a concert hall. National touring acts including Otis Redding and Clarence Clemons performed in the central drill hall.  The building is now listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places at the local level of significance.
