Belmont Farm Distillery

Belmont Farm Distillery in Culpeper, Virginia, is often cited as America’s First Craft Distillery, having been established in 1988 by Master Distiller Chuck Miller. The distillery operates on a multi-generational family farm, maintaining a full grain-to-glass operation—they grow, harvest, and grind all their own corn, wheat, and barley on-site.

Belmont Farm adheres to traditional methods, using a genuine, antique solid copper pot still (dating to 1933) for all distillation to slowly preserve the aroma and taste of their spirits, unlike modern column stills. They produce a wide range of products under the Kopper Kettle (aged spirits, gin, vodka, rum) and Virginia Lightning (unaged corn whiskey/moonshine) labels, honoring a family legacy that traces back to pre-Prohibition moonshining.
