Old Nut Job, Featuring Ragged Branch Distillery

This is a delightful seasonal twist on an ‘Old Fashioned’ using walnuts in place of fruit. Served up as a martini; CHEERS!

INGREDIENTS
2oz Ragged Branch Bourbon
1/2oz Vanilla Maple Salted Syrup*
3 Dashes Orange Bitters
3 Walnut Halfs

*Vanilla Maple Salted Syrup
– Combine, 1/2 cup pure maple syrup, 1/2 cup Sugar In The Raw, 1/2 cup water, and 1/2 tsp Kosher salt to a simmer, (stir until sugar is dissolved). Let cool before use.

PREPARATION
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass and muddle till nuts are all crushed
Add ice and stir until well chilled
Double strain into a chilled martini glass
Garnish with a walnut

Naughty or Nice, Featuring Vitae Spirits Distillery

Developed by our Tasting Room Associate Kerrie Pierce for our Winter 2016 tasting room cocktail menu. Naughty or Nice’s color combination is perfect for the holiday season and its sweet and sour flavor profile makes it dangerously easy to go down.

INGREDIENTS
1.5 oz. Vitae Spirits Modern Gin
3/4 oz. cranberry shrub
3/4 oz. orange blossom simple syrup
rosemary sprig

CRANBERRY SHRUB
1 large orange
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups cranberries
1 cup apple cider vinegar

DIRECTIONS
1. Produce orange sugar: Using a peeler remove orange zest in long strips and place in a bowl with sugar. Muddle orange zest with sugar, cover, and then let sit for a minimum of an hour. Remove zest from bowl and discard, while reserving the oily sugar.
2. Juice the orange and set it aside.
3. Add cranberries and vinegar to blender and blend until pureed.
4. Combine cranberry-vinegar mixture, orange juice, and orange sugar in a non-reactive container then allow to steep at room temperature for at least two days.
5. Strain off solids through a fine strainer or cheese cloth and retain the cranberry shrub liquid.

Hot Buttered Rum, Featuring Vitae Spirits Distillery

There is nothing better than a spicy rich hot rum drink on a cold winter day. This member of our Winter 2016 tasting room cocktail menu is not for the faint at heart.

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 oz. Vitae Spirits Platinum Rum
3 oz. (~2 to 3 tbs) spiced butter
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
hot water

SPICED BUTTER
1/4 cup quality salted butter
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 tbs high grade molasses
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 ground fresh ginger
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
Mix all ingredients. Microwave briefly if needed to soften butter. Let sit at least overnight in the refrigerator.

Early Morning Breeze, featuring James River Distillery and Belle Isle Moonshine

I decided to name this series of Virginia Spirits drinks after Dolly Parton Songs. Music is a huge influence for comfort, and Michele (one of the owners) and myself are huge Dolly Fans! Early Morning Breeze suited the feel of this drink well I think.

INGREDIENTS
1 oz. Belle Isle Grapefruit
1 oz. Dolin Blanc
.5 Oz. James River Distillery Ostervit
.25 oz. lime
dropper hopped grapefruit bitters

PREPARATION
Add ingredients to tin, plus ice, shake vigorously, strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.

Martini, featuring James River Distillery

Classic martini showcasing the gin base spirit. Enjoy after a long day, right before dinner.

INGREDIENTS
2 oz James River Distillery Continental gin
1 oz Dolin dry vermouth
1 dash orange bitters
lemon twist

PREPARATION
Combine all except lemon with ice. Stir until well chilled and diluted. Strain into a cold cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
